So on a whim this weekend I joined this list serve that posts auditions in the capital district. I probably will never audition for anything, but I thought what the heck. This morning I woke up to the first email I received from the list. It was an announcement that Eugene Kosarovich died yesterday. Even though I haven't seen Eugene in 8 years or so (Rachel's wedding was the last time I think), this is still a big shock- he was such a constant presence around here. I can't imagine the RPI players without him. I was planning on seeing him perform in Clue- I can only imagine how distraught his castmates are. :( RIP, Eugene.

    THIS OLD HOUSE
So everyone would agree with me that moving across the country is pretty stressful. Buying a new house doesn’t necessarily have to be stressful, but it usually turns out to be so if you don’t know what you’re doing (us), and also if you are doing it from a long distance. Starting a new job is always fairly stressful for me because I really feel like I have to prove myself and I’m always really hard on myself. Doing it all at once… well…

    THE HOUSE

So closing was yesterday. First of all, driving there in a torrential downpour was kind of stressful for me. Anyway, we had all of the money ready to go in our bank accounts but at the last minute we found out that we needed to wire it to the attorney’s escrow account so she could cut the check to the seller (don’t ask me why- I don’t understand these things). Well, we wired the $$ early Tuesday and by 3pm (closing time) it still hadn’t gone through. We waited until 5 and it STILL wasn’t there (the seller’s attorney was pleased, let me tell you). It FINALLY went through at 11:30 today. Ugh. Whatever- we were still allowed to move into the house last night.

Our house is going to look absolutely incredible one day. It really is a pretty amazing house, but there is a list of improvements that need to happen. I didn’t realize how much I hated the old yucky pink carpet until I walked around on it barefoot. As soon as Wade has enough time to help me, that carpet is OUT OF THERE. The basement needs to be de-grossified (we will probably hire some dudes to do this). There are other things. I can’t wait because I can picture how awesome the house is going to be- the layout is absolutely perfect. Also, I have no idea how I’m going to decorate it. The endless possibilities are very exciting to me.

Last night I found out that the house is right under a flight path from the Albany airport. WHAT.

We are in this amazing coffee shop in Avrill Park (really, though, it feels like we are in the middle of no where, which adds to the awsomeness). I spent the weekend remembering how much I love upstate NY. Activities the weekend included the Troy Pig Out, the Troy farmers market and craft sale (which is very impressive), this amazing little ice cream shop with ten million flavors (That has apparently always been north of Troy, but I never knew it existed), and an awesome picnic + outdoor theater (even though one of my old enemies was in the production- hah!). Today we ate at the good ol' STD, and then visited Robin, Jim and little Iain, who is awesome and both of the parents are doing fabulously.

Also yesterday we went to the estate sale at our house and bought the dining room set, the bedroom set, and various other odds and ends. It was weird and fun to see so much activities in our future house. Also, we noticed some more house quirks (like a voice tube that connects the second floor to the front door!). CAN'T WAIT TO CLOSE!!!

We are in avrill park because I did a practice drive to work. It was ok- an easy drive, but I am really working out in the country- kind of cool. Wade is jealous (and I'm jealous of him because it is a 2 mile walk to work for him). I'm feeling fairly positive about starting tomorrow. Send me good first day of work vibes!!

    GREETINGS FROM WALL
We are in Wall, South Dakota. Yes, that Wall. South Dakota is ok- it is sort of a big tourist trap- though I did enjoy the drive through the black mountains and Mt. Rushmore was pretty surreal. There is nothing much to this town, though we stopped in a local restaurant that had superb fried things and some of the best broasted chicken I've had in years (ok- the only broasted chicken I've had in years but it was GOOD).

The highlight of the day for me was driving along rt 116 in Wyoming through a passing storm. I kind of love Wyoming. No one told me that the roads would be red there- wild!

Speaking of roads, so far Washington has the worst roads in the country- what's the deal, dudes?

After today I really want to watch the movie little big man again. I love that movie! The air is thick here with the exploitation of native americans. It makes me a little uncomfortable. Tomorrow we hit the badlands, though, which I am looking forward to.

Tomorrow night, after a very long day of driving, we will arrive in Minneapolis.

Tentatively we will be arriving in Albany next Thursday. As of now, we will be homeless. House closing is tentatively the 24th (but you know how that goes). Also, we are starting our jobs on the 20th. Not sure when our stuff will arrive, but it is leaving Seattle Friday. Everything will be fine, right?

    BLINGS!
We are in Billings (BLINGS!) Montana! Montana is a very very long state. The scenery is somewhat varied, though, and there are lots of awesome bugs here to splat all over our windshield.

I am driving so much! You guys would be so proud of me! I drove the whole way through Idaho, which is like a scary beautiful awesome mountain roller coaster ride. All in all, I drove a little over 4 hours today! Go me!

In my last entry I forgot to write about my very nice 4th of July. IT turns out a friend of mine moved into an apartment that I used to live in (2005). It is a "penthouse" apartment in fremont that is taller than everything else around it and has a giant picture window with an amazing view of downtown seattle. I got to watch the fireworks indoors on a couch- PERFECT (ha ha- I hate standing outdoors). IT was very nice and I got to say some goodbyes to good friends there (SAD). The only negative was that I let some hippie girl henna my foot. It is seriously ugly, guys- and it is DARK. I am actually embarrassed to show up to Wade's patents place with it (it seriously covers my whole foot- toes and all). Oh well- I can joke with Wade's dad about how ugly it is.

Tomorrow we head down to Wyoming! That is my first new state!

I just ate a banana for dinner. Now a balance bar for dessert.

    Hello Friends,

I need a date for a work sponsored rafting trip on August 15th. Wade can't come, because he will be busy studying for his boards. The trip will be in in Western Mass, but I prefer to go with someone from the Capital region because I am driving, and would like to have some one with me for this trip (I haven't driven regularly in 14 years- give me a break!). Anyone interested? It should be fun!

Whoah- everything's flooded here. In Seattle proper, you can't really tell (except for stupidly bad traffic) and I don't really pay attention to local news so I didn't know how bad it was.

Apparently, this is the only way to drive from here to portland.

    (it's usually a 3 hour drive)

In other news THIS WEEK IS KICKING MY BUTT SO HARD and there isn't even anything particularly difficult about it!!! What is wrong with me? I'm hoping that it's just the adjustment of working normal hours again after all of the holidays/snow/sloth. Still....YIEEEKES!!!

Oh my gosh, guys, we are back in the States. We arrived this afternoon. I am trying my best to stay awake for as long as I can! Wade already passed out.

So France totally killed me. We did not want to come home- I loved it so much. My favorite part was our visit to Lyon- not a huge destination for international tourists but I guess that's what made it so charming. Really, I enjoyed everything about the trip. Everything is mind blowingly old- and we ended up visiting lots of Roman ruins which was unexpected. And French people are totally nice- and hot! I felt like such a slob the whole time I was there. Now we are back in the gross old U.S of A. where my slovenliness blends right in.

There is so much more to say, but Wade will probably write about it in our food blog eventually. After all, stuffing our faces was our #1 priority for this trip.

In much sadder news, I returned to find out that my Grandpa Marvin died on Tuesday. This wasn't a complete shock- he made it pretty clear that he was only holding on for the wedding reception- but it's really surreal to hear about it after the fact- I missed the funeral and everything. It is cool that my one of my last memories of him is seeing him having a great time at the wedding with his family. The next day he was pretty out of it- it was clear that he was ready to go. He faught off death for a great party- a true Shapiro.
    Here is the obituary:
    http://www.legacy.com/jsonline/DeathNotices.asp?Page=LifeStory&PersonID=119529410
He was such a big personality- It seems unreal that he's not around anymore. Also my first grandparent to go which is weird.
I didn't even think of this- but Wade brought up that he was surprised that he didn't stick around long enough to vote. He was a very vocal Obama suporter.

A couple of complaints before I get back to work.

#1- Why is it so cold in Seattle already? It's hat weather is early October. I'd rather it be rainy and warm. Oh, you heard me. If this winter is like last winter I'd might as well move someplace where it's actually supposed to be cold in the winters.

#2-My big fat Long Island Wedding Reception is almost a week away and THE LARGEST ZIT ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH just sprouted on my chin. There is no way this thing will be gone in a week. I guess I will have to wear foundation after all which is LAME unless someone out there knows how to make huge zits magically disappear.
